For all those who missed seeing the legendary Marathi Vastraharan game, now you can watch on TV. Zee Marathi is all set to telecast this famous game Apruil 28 at 1 pm and 7 pm, which also happens to be his 5000th program!
The play within the play is about a group of actors trying to stage Vastraharan the Mahabharata episode and then in 1980 took the Marathi theater by storm. This storm brought by Macchindra Kambali, a veteran Marathi theater actor, director and producer, brought the dialect Malavani to mainstream Marathi theater and made history.
February 16, 1980 was the day of the total solar eclipse and the day proved to be the most auspicious day for the team of 'Vastraharan', since its inaugural show scheduled for this day. With a good opening 'Vastraharan' could rise to 175 within a year and 175 series will be held January 26, 1981 in the presence of the late PL Deshpande, who was the special guest of honor.
There is a story about the work that the famous actor says Dr. Kashinath Ghanekar wanted this work to be done in London and Lata Mangeshkar became president of this great show. Many popular artists have agreed to be part of the show. Due to some visa problems, the show seemed impossible, but due to the timely intervention of Balasaheb Thackeray, the show was held successfully in London.
